Tobago Hospitality & Tourism Institute (THTI)

Overview

THTI Students

The programmes offered at THTI have been designed to ensure that students are fully prepared, both theoretically and practically, for the world of tourism and hospitality. One can choose from a range of Associate Degree, Diploma and Self-Enhancement Short Courses (SESC). Intense Industry Training programmes are also run at various times during the year for organisations who are interested in developing the skill and improving the quality of their human resources.

In 2006, the Institute implemented the Caribbean Tourism Organisation's (CTO) Core Curriculum programme, this means that our Associate Degree courses are aligned with those taught at other educational institutions throughout the region, allowing for seamless transfer between the THTI and any other organisation under the CTO programme. More importantly, it means that certification from the Institute is accepted by hotels, restaurants and other establishments throughout the region, greatly widening employment opportunities for our graduates.

In 2009, THTI became the first indigenous Tobagonian institution to be registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT), further highlighting the quality of our programmes and lecturers.

Further, the structure of our Degree and Diploma programmes requires that students complete a semester long internship, relevant to their field of study, at an organisation in Tobago, Trinidad or the wider region. This then affords students the opportunity, as interns, to form relationships with and impress potential employers. There are also opportunities for international student exchanges through our partner colleges.
